Please choose the right dog to fit your lifestyle as well as your experience/competency.

If you have never owned a dog, don’t get a husky or a Rottie. Dogs like staffies, German Shepherds or even Border Collies/Australian cattle dogs all need special attention and training. Be it with a trainer or research using YouTube. Get educated.

“I have always wanted a XXX breed” or “We had a XXX breed when we were growing up” are not good enough unless you are absolutely committed to get the appropriate training to properly manage and fulfil your dog’s needs.

If you are older (70+) or tiny, you should probably not get a rottweiller unless you have mad dog skills.

If you are a couch potato, you probably should not get a husky.

Please. Know your breed before buying/adopting a dog. This is a lifetime commitment.

For example, one of my clients never owned a dog and bought a German Shepherd because the kids wanted a dog. Now the kids are too busy, no one has the time to train her. So now she became human/dog aggressive.

Good first timer breeds:
– toy breeds; poodle, Maltese, Pommeranian, etc
– Labrador
– Golden Retriever

Staffies are abundant and frankly cheap, but you should not get one unless you are committed to training. This breed make EXCELLENT family members and is my favourite, but they require good leadership and training. They are prone to separation anxiety, fishelsalvador adrenalin addiction and dog reactivity.
